Pineapple Express
Eric Krahn
Comm11/Movie Review
A stoner and his drug dealer are on the run from the cops after one of them witness’ a cop commit murder.
Rogan and Franco light up the screen with a brilliantly made comedy. Filled with intense cop chases and random action scenes throughout the whole film, I say Pineapple Express is easily in my top 10. After a continuous stream of hilarious scenes, Rogan soon continues on with his work after smoking the infamous “Cross Joint” with Franco. Rogan is a process server, and I good one to, making you laugh right off the bat with his costumes. On his last delivery he runs into a few small problems though. He sort of witnesses a murder. Of course he does what everyone would do and pulls someone just as dumb as him into this situation. From here on in, the movie is full of laughs, action, and ridiculous movie ideas.
Eric Krahn gives this movie a WHOPPIN’ 4/4!!!!

The Lost Boys
September 12th, 2008
The Lost Boys is a classic teen-vampire flick based in around 87 about a woman who moves with her two sons to a strange lively town off the coast of California called Santa Carla after a divorce. The two sons, Michael – a motorcycle riding ‘’members only’’ jacket sporting boy of about 17 or 18, and Sam – a 14 year old blonde comic book reader clad in the cheesiest of bright ‘’bel-air’’ attire ready to believe anything. Early on in the movie you learn that Santa Carla is considered the ‘’vampire capital of the world’’, and all the locals seem to know how things work. The second night there, Mike heads down to the local hotspot to join the locals his age in enjoying some mid 80s soft rock power-ballads live at the boardwalk fair (mandatory to any west coast town in the 80s). Mike meets a girl named star, and a group of tough looking boys that she belongs to (including a mullet’ed Kiefer Sutherland in his breakthrough role) take Mike to their hideout on the coast – an abandoned and nearly completely collapsed hotel that is almost entirely underground. Mike doesn’t realize until it’s too late that his new group of friends are vampires, and he’s become one of them. I won’t go spoiling how that happens. Sam on the other hand, has met two boys his age that look just as tough and take themselves very seriously as vampire hunters. These two boys teach Sam everything he needs to look out for. Most of the movie consists of what goes on with Michael and his transitions to the league of the damned, their mother’s relationship with a weird shopkeeper named Max, Its themes, soundtrack, and overall appearance is a very mid/late 80s hip west coast look, yet it is one of the best vampire movies I have ever seen. The Lost Boys is essentially a (kind of) modern look on a family member becoming a creature of the night, and how it effects the people around him. For a vampire movie, it isn’t exactly scary, but the way it’s made is intended to draw you into the story more than the killing. This one’s a cult classic, one big buildup to a nailbiting popcorn shoveling fast paced bloody ending. 4 out of 5 Stars.

Brother Bear
September 11th, 2008
Brother bears is a Disney movie realised by Aaron Blaise and Robert Walker. Set in the Pacific Northwest, it deals with three young Native American brothers who are making their way into manhood. The youngest brother Kenai has the totem of a bear which represent the animal’s spirit within his body. He dislikes bears but in their culture the bear represents love and not a more dynamic quality as he was hoping for because he’s so angry towards the bears it ends up resulting in the death of him and the bear (mother bear). Then Kenai is reincarnated into a bear. The movie was an instant classic. It made you feel as if you were in the movie creating emotions never felt before and never thought you could feel. A sweet sadness that was pruely amazing.

October Sky
September 11th, 2008
October Sky is a true -life story of West -Virginia High school student Homer Hickman (Cast by Jake Gyllenhaal) , who was inspired by the 1957 launch of Sputnik to build and launch his own rocket.
Homer Hickman is on a quest to build a rocket that launches, But he fails many times and his father does not support him on his quest to build rockets. Homer still builds rockets even though his 3 friends are the only ones supporting him. Homer and his friends build a Rocket that launches into the sky really high.
NewcomerGyllenhaal is extraordinary in the pivotal role of Homer more than holding his own against such seasoned talent as Cooper and Laura Dern , playing his inspirational teacher who pushes him to archieve his dream and contrasts a life-threatening illness just as Homer’s plans apear to be getting off the ground.
Gyllenhaal is a natural in front of the camera, seething with rage when his father continually throws spanners (nay the whole toolbox) in the works, and bursting with pride when he and his friends snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. The other young cast members also turn in strong performances, each with his own particular hurdles to overcome during the film: bullying at school, an alcoholic and abusive father, and the death of a loved one. If the film does have any failings, it is the overly sentimental final ten minutes which are determined to pull the heartstrings as firmly, and as frequently as possible.
